Storytelling is the underlying language of reality. Fail to encode the right story, do not be surprised when you hear crickets. Not sure what that story is, should be, or how to tell it? Convinced you need to throw huge budgets, big stars and over-the-top production values at it to make an impact? Take a step back and let us have a look before you go making big decisions and locking-in major investments.  

While there may be no accounting for taste, taste is a very real, tangible and objective factor in what constitutes good design. There is surface level appeal and then there is deep resonance. Designs that stick are ones that operate on multiple levels.

The same can be said for the words, sounds, symbols, images and videos themselves. A comprehensive, multilayered approach results in marketing communiques so potent and pregnant with meaning that they resonate with energy, which gives them the power and potential to take on a life all their own. There is only one way to know what that means and why it matters to you.

Much has been said about brand and branding. Too much. And most of it is bunk. Clever, to be sure, but ultimately disingenuous drivel. We will not be adding to the endless quagmire of pointless content. And we will not allow you to do so either.  

As for marketing, if you like swimming with other sharks in blood-red waters, we get it. It makes perfect sense. Sharks have remained largely unchanged at the apex since time immemorial. But if you are tired of the frantic free-for-all of feeding frenzies and long to evolve into a dolphin or killer whale, a vast blue ocean of opportunity awaits. 

Trends. You can follow them or you can set them. The choice is yours, whether you seize the day and wear the mantle of trailblazer, leading from the front; or, resign yourself to bringing up the rear.

That said, you have to know the field. And what is more, you have to know what lies beneath it, hidden from view. Many a general has seen his troops fall through ice or engulfed in flames because they focused on their opponents' pieces but not on the board itself. Like the pauses between the notes and the words between the lines, the space between the pieces are the key to knowing where to move, when, and how. 

From Peter Thiel to Jim Balsillie, prominent business leaders and entrepreneurs lament the demise of genuine innovation. Credit where credit is due: there are countless advances being made in many industries. But upon closer inspection you will find these are mostly iterative in nature. This is because invention is not a left- or right-brain pursuit but a whole-brain undertaking. And sadly, the divisive nature of binary Human 2.0 and Industry 4.0 are altogether too digital for accessing and utilizing what is ultimately an analog faculty: free consciousness.

Risk seems to have become a four-letter word in the 21st century. Even angel investment and venture capital, once the bulwarks of entrepreneurship, have become largely risk-averse. Opting more for those so-called novel applications of established paradigms; leveraging certainty of proven business models over revolutionary approaches. Call it prudence if that makes you feel better. We call it what it is. Fear. And there is only one way to overcome that four letter word: face it with fierce faith.
